Thomas Talén

Thomas has specialist expertise in employment law and has advised clients across both the private and public sectors for more than 20 years. He has extensive experience with complex transactions, including mergers, demergers, acquisitions, and business transfers (TUPE), as well as corporate restructurings and post-merger integrations. Thomas regularly advises both Norwegian and international companies on compliance and risk management matters, including health and safety (HSE), collective agreements, and employment conditions—with particular focus on working hours/rotation schemes, compensation, social security/pension schemes, and the use of temporary staff, hired-in personnel, and independent (sub)contractors. He also provides strategic advice to international clients regarding the deployment of seconded employees and cross-border assignments. For several years, Thomas has been ranked as a Leading Individual in employment law by The Legal 500 and is also recognised in Chambers for his expertise in Norwegian employment law. Furthermore, he has been acknowledged as one of Norway’s top lawyers in investigations and compliance for six consecutive years by KapitalJUS' annual rankings. Thomas Talén holds a Cand. jur. degree from the University of Oslo (2002) and was admitted to the bar in 2004. He joined Ro Sommernes as a partner in July 2025, having previously been a partner at the law firms Simonsen Vogt Wiig AS, Deloitte Advokatfirma AS, and Bull Advokatfirma AS. Thomas holds several board positions and currently serves as a judge at the Association Court (Foreningsdomstolen), chair of JUC’s Employment Law Network, and chair of the Appeals Board at the Oslo School of Architecture and Design (AHO).
